Exhibition Opening: The American Revolution in the Hudson Highlands

Gather at the Putnam History Museum on Friday, May 29 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Brief remarks from the curators will be held at 5:30, but the galleries will be open for viewing until 7PM.

There are two exhibitions opening to commemorate the 250th Anniversary of the American Revolution, and one special reveal of conservation work done to the PHM’s pride and joy painting.

Main Gallery Opening: The American Revolution in the Hudson Highlands: Part Two

This new exhibition features artifacts, documents, and new reproductions that tell the tale of this contested Hudson Valley region during the conclusion of the American Revolution. Learn local stories that you may not have heard before, and how they played into the founding of the United States. To commemorate the 250th Anniversary of the American Revolution (#Rev250), this exhibition marks part two of two at the PHM highlighting the importance of the Hudson Highlands during this historic period, featuring stories from 1779 through the end of the war. If you missed part one, don’t worry! This exhibition can also stand on its own.

Community Room Opening: Homes of the Revolution

Explore the houses that stood at the time of the Revolution in Putnam County. Deep dive into the histories of several homes that stood witness to the tumultuous years of the revolution, and learn how they can clue us in to the lived realities of the people from all walks of life who lived in the Hudson Highlands.

Also: First chance to see The Gun Foundry by John Ferguson Weir after it’s been conserved!

The work reccently done by professional conservator Nadia Ghannam has revealed a hidden depth and detail in this cornerstone of the PHM’s collection. Come and be one of the first to see it!
