History from Home Micro-Series: West Point Foundry

Hosted by Mark Forlow, the co-author West Point Foundry, this series explores the history of one of America’s first industrial sites

In Episode 1, Mark provides an overview of the Foundry’s history, including its creation in 1818 and rise to prominence as a producer of artillery and munitions for the Union during the Civil War
In Episode 2, Mark takes us all over the Foundry site to examine the different waterworks that powered production. Water power was a determining factor in the Foundry’s location and played a major role in all aspects of production.
In Episode 3, Mark introduces us to the pattern shop: the place where the objects forged at the foundry began to take shape. One wall of the pattern shop still stands at the West Point Foundry Preserve, next to the office building.
