Stories of the pandemic

Since early 2020, we have been living through an extraordinary moment of historic proportions. Museums and historical societies across the country are actively working to document this time by collecting stories, photographs, documents, and artifacts related to the COVID-19 pandemic. By documenting our present stories of struggle and triumph, future generations and researchers will have a better understanding of this moment in time.

There are several ways you can help us preserve these stories/photos/objects for future generations.

Do you have a story to share? Please use the form below to submit online, or email us at director@putnamhistorymuseum.org or by mail: Putnam History Museum, 63 Chestnut St. Cold Spring, NY 10516.

If you have collected physical documents or artifacts related to the pandemic and are interested in donating them to the museum, please contact Kevin Price, PHM Executive Director, at director@putnamhistorymuseum.org and John Duncan, PHM Collections Manager, at john@putnamhistorymuseum.org.

Describe five memories from this time period that you will always carry with you. How has the novel coronavirus disrupted your daily life? Are you missing school, family, work, sports, concerts, social plans, vacations, or anything else? Have you had COVID-19 or known others who have? Have you lost loved ones to the disease? Have you taken any virtual tours of museums, parks or other interesting places? If so, explain how a virtual tour compares to an actual one. Describe your experience of going out into public. What does it feel like to wear a mask or gloves? How does navigating the grocery store, or other stores, feel different? What do you miss the most about life from before this outbreak? What do you miss the least about life from before this outbreak? Have you received the Covid-19 vaccine? What did this mean to you?
