Hudson Valley Contributions to the Union War Effort

Did you know that Hudson Valley industrial sites helped give the Union Army a technological advantage during the Civil War? Join Putnam History Museum and the Mohawk Industrial Gateway’s Burden Iron Works Museum for a virtual panel discussion on our community’s role in this pivotal historical event.

BIWM Executive Director Michael P. Barrett will discuss Troy’s Burden Iron Works and its mass production of horseshoes while PHM Board Chair Mark Forlow will address the Parrott Guns built by Cold Spring’s West Point Foundry. Burden Iron Works and the West Point Foundry were both pioneers of American industrialization. They helped make the Hudson the “Silicon Valley” of the nineteenth century.

We hope you can join us for this unique collaborative event. Visit the Eventbrite page below to register. If you are unable to join us live, a recorded version of the discussion will be available to registrants.
