Noted baseball historian, writer, and collector Bob Mayer will present the program “Highlights of Early Baseball in Putnam County.” Mayer will share with guests an overview of early baseball activity in Putnam County from 1865 to the 1930s. Mayer’s talk will begin with an overview of baseball activity in Cold Spring and then make its way eastward across the county with a discussion on the exceptional 1886 Brewster Team and the 1930s Mahopac Team.

About the speaker: Bob Mayer is a retired Bank Executive having spent 30+ years with JPMorganChase, and Bankers Trust Co. Bob is a collector of vintage baseball items, and artifacts from his collection were on display at the Glory Days exhibit at the Museum of the City of New York, the Yorktown NY Museum and the Orangetown NY and Peekskill History Museums. A member of Society for American Baseball Research (SABR) and the Baseball Hall of Fame, Bob has been investigating early baseball in Westchester, Orange, Dutchess, Ulster and Putnam Counties in New York for the past several years.

The PHM’s 116th Annual Business Meeting will precede the lecture, beginning at 4:30 pm. The meeting and program will be held on-site in the PHM’s new Community Room and simultaneously through Zoom.

The Community Room (opening on April 2nd and funded in part by Heather and Neal Zuckerman in Memory of Lynda Vrooman), includes space for research, reading, and public programs, and will feature Annette Solakoglu’s exhibition of portrait photography, Faces | Graces.

FACES | GRACES: After the loss of several beloved Philipstown, NY community members in 2020, Annette Solakoglu felt an urgency to pick up her camera and honor those who had made significant contributions to the community. FACES / GRACES celebrates twelve elders who embody Margaret Mead’s words: “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world.”
