Women at the Helm – A Virtual History Lecture

Exec. Dir. Susan Evans McClure of the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum will give a virtual presentation titled “Women at the Helm: Celebrating women leaders of the Champlain Valley from the 18th century to Today”. This presentation will cover topics such as female ferry captains on the 120-mile-long waterway of Lake Champlain and how women’s suffrage progressed and was shaped by the region. Plus a look at the life of scientist Emmeline Moore (1872-1963), a prominent early freshwater biologist, directed the first full-lake biological study on Lake Champlain in 1929.

This program is a collaboration with the Butterfield Memorial Library and the Putnam History Museum and is made possible, in part, through the Putnam Arts Council’s Arts Link Grant Program, with public funds provided through the NY State Council on the Arts with support from Governor Andrew Cuomo and the NY State Legislature.
