SUMMARY:History Hike: North and South Redoubts
DESCRIPTION:Protecting the Hudson River, an extremely valuable route for moving goods and people, was a key part of Washington’s plans during the American Revolution. While the sharp curve of the Hudson was defended by the forts that would become West Point, the defenses on the eastern side of the river were the North and South Redoubts in Garrison, NY. \nThis history hike of the North and South Redoubts will lead hikers to both redoubts, discussing the history of chaining the Hudson during the Revolutionary War and how the redoubts helped defend the chain, the river, and the Continental cause.\nThe hike and tour will begin from the North Redoubts trail head, located off of Snake Hill Road in Garrison, NY. See map below.\nThis is an out and back hike, approximately 3 hours round trip.\nThis 3 mile hike is considered moderate to strenuous, featuring steep portions and rocky areas. Hiking boots and long pants are strongly recommended.\nDifficulty: Moderate to Strenuous\nCost: PHM Members $12| Non-members $15\nLocation: North Redoubt Trail, Snake Hill Rd, Garrison, NY 10524. It is between Avery Rd and Walter Hoving road, on the south side of Snake Hill.\n\nFill out my LGL Form! ( https://secure.lglforms.com/form_engine/s/LXYovH_CNdmmkAkUdDcwdw )\n\n
